Claiming your winnings

Understand the steps after a win, required documents, payment timelines and claim deadlines. BCLC, not this website, has responsibility for confirming and paying prizes.

Last updated: 13 October 2026 Version 1.1

You have one year to claim.

A Daily Grand prize expires one year after the date of the draw in which it was won. After that it cannot be paid, whatever the reason for the delay, and nobody is obliged to remind you. The same applies to a Free Play you have won but not used.

Your claim process depends on the prize

Daily Grand for-life prizes — $1,000 a day for life and $25,000 a year for life — are never credited automatically. They follow BCLC's for-life prize claim process below, by appointment, including your one-time choice between the annuity and the cash payout.

These thresholds follow BCLC's published claim procedure (Claim a prize ) and can change. The procedure published at the time of your claim is the one that applies.

Step by step

The full process for a major or lifetime prize

1

Confirm the published winning numbers

Compare your line against the winning numbers published by BCLC following the draw. Results shown on this portal, or anywhere else, are not official and must not be relied on.

2

Keep the ticket record safe

Do not close the account or change its details. The authoritative record is the one on the central gaming system — a screenshot is not proof of anything.

3

Get in touch

Start the claim by emailing [email protected]. We will tell you what to bring and arrange the appointment. Get independent legal and financial advice before you attend.

4

Complete identity verification

Government-issued photo identification and proof that you are 19+ and resident within British Columbia. Prizes are paid to the verified account holder only, never to a third party.

5

Choose an annuity or a cash payment

You choose once, at the time of claim, and the choice is final. An annuity already in payment cannot be converted to cash later. Where more than one play wins that same for-life tier, only the cash payout is available.

6

Prize verification and payout

BCLC validates the play against the central system and pays in Canadian dollars. For an annuity, the first instalment follows validation.

Before you claim

Four points to understand beforehand

Winner names are made public

Publication is a condition of receiving a major prize, not an optional extra. Your full name, your city or town, the game and the prize amount are published, along with a photograph, so that the public can verify prizes are genuinely paid. Anonymity is granted only in exceptional, documented circumstances. If you are unwilling to be identified, you should not play.

How lifetime prize payments work

It is an annuity, paid in periodic instalments rather than literally daily, and guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years. If the winner dies inside that period, the remaining guaranteed payments go to the named beneficiary or the estate. After the guarantee period, payments stop on death.

Tax

The winnings themselves are not taxed in Canada. Income earned on them afterwards is — interest, dividends, rent and capital gains all count. A large win is a reason to get independent tax advice before you spend or invest anything.

No legitimate claim requires an advance fee

There is never a fee, tax, deposit or "release payment" to collect a lottery prize. Nobody official will contact you about a prize on a game you did not play, or ask for a card number, a password or a gift card. If someone does, it is a scam — stop, and report it.

Need to dispute a prize claim?

Prize decisions are made by us against the validated central record. If you disagree with one, there is a defined route — including escalation to the independent regulator.

Every prize is validated against the central gaming system before it is paid. See section 10 of our terms.
